They say all great ideas begin with a vision. In
the late fall of 1985, Todd Semmes, stood at the 6,500 ft. level
on Mt. Hood with a clear vision to the southwest of the massive
storm blowing in from the Pacific Ocean. He wondered if Mt. Hood
was going to take a direct hit and what problems that would bring
to the ski area he would be patrolling that day. He also wondered
if his idea for a better Ski Patrol parka and bibs was viable
and why nobody else already made them. Todd was an accomplished
mountaineer and outdoor adventurer, and he was well respected
by the Mt. Hood alpine community. He figured it was enough that
the Ski Patrol members put their well being and life at risk.
The least they had a right to
expect was the best gear and equipment available.
In 1986, Todd and his wife Kathy began their own
company in Hood River, Oregon, to design and manufacturer the
products he had envisioned. Their simple objective was to make
the best designed, highest quality and best performing custom
outerwear they could. It worked better than they had expected
and soon they had many of the area Ski Patrols using their product.
Todd eventually had other people on the mountain asking him about
the the brand of the parka he was wearing. He was proud to relate
to them that it was his product and it was called Airtime. Some
of those people were firefighters who asked him if he could adapt
his product for their requirements. He and Kathy did, one fire
department at a time, and their company slowly grew.
Today, Airtime is located in Beaverton, Oregon.
We're still committed to making the best designed, highest quality,
and best performing custom outerwear. We sell to select fire and
police departments around the country. We also still provide our
proven mountain parka to Ski Patrol personnel around the Pacific
Northwest. Airtime is located not far from Mt. Hood and we are
always inspired in our quest to provide the best products and
service to our customers by the Todd's original vision.
